Broker's Comments
Boatshed London are delighted to offer this fantastic barge houseboat for sale with London mooring at Hermitage Community Moorings, next to Tower Bridge.
Built in 1915 as a light ship originally, this barge was converted into a "Billy Boy" sailing ketch and now takes pride of place at this historic mooring site on the Thames with views of London's most famous bridge.
Hermitage Moorings is run as a co-operative, owned and managed by its members. It means owners have security of tenure of their moorings and lower mooring fees than the private marinas in London. Part of the cost of this vessel is for buying into the membership which every owner has had to do. It is recouped when the boat is sold.
The barge was formerly used as a training vessel and has a functional interior with three cabins and a central living area and galley. The new owners may want to renovate the interior and the size of the boat gives huge potential for this. There is a multi fuel stove and diesel central heating.
The barge is in great condition topside with a full teak deck and the rigging and sails all appear to be in good condition. The owners have sailed the boat in the annual barge races on the Medway and Swale so this is not just a floating home!
Service charge is roughly £6,000 per annum.
